building blocks

A paragraph is a building block. Paragraphs bring order to the essay, dividing it into comprehensible sections that fit together within a unified whole but also stand as organized units on their own. In a sense a paragraph is a miniature essay in itself, so the success of your paragraphs determines the success of your paper. An essay filled with weak, undeveloped paragraphs will be a weak, undeveloped essay. At the other end of the scale, an essay with long, congested paragraphs will produce mental constipation in the reader.
